It's The Process

The more I talk to other artists, I find the discussion getting back to the process. Now, of course for many different artists, it means many different things. This is what it is for me.

     I believe that mood and emotion are decisions we make, so I begin with choosing the best vibration possible. What makes me smile or laugh is the drink of choice. I like setting the tone with a soundtrack for sure. Pandora is great for setting it and letting it do it's thing. I like incense and pleasant fragrance when I work so having the scent match the sound helps.

     Being clean and organized is very important. It makes the experience a lot less stressful when you have all you need accessible and neat. Dust sucks my will to live. Sweep, dust, mop, vacuum etc. With love and gratitude, it is how I show appreciation for my work space.

     Now I like laying a foundation for the piece. It begins with the idea and a sketch. Don't be pretentious. This can go anywhere. It's art so it doesn't matter. The beautiful thing about paint is it covers things. Duh.

     So then I start laying paint over it. Use whatever paint you want, who is going to judge you? Art critics and gallery curators? At the end of the day, for me the process is to create a pleasant, enjoyable, stress free work area and paint. You can keep your glaze and sealant. Keep your drying process and your solvents. Just feel good, paint and repeat.
